Vodafone Idea is believed to have finalised a new $700-800 million (Rs4,900 crore-5,600 crore) five-year technology outsourcing contract with IBM, a deal that is expected to contribute a major part to the Rs8,400 crore annual opex savings that the telecom market leader has set out to achieve by FY21.
“Given the evolving nature of the scope of the deal, the value will touch a billion dollar mark for IBM India over a course of 2-3 years. The market is now changing with a higher need for value-added service than basic infrastructure services, and the new deal will be structured in the manner,” Sanchit Vir Gogia, chief analyst and founder of Greyhound Research said.
