Cloud offerings are no longer the preserve of startups and small and medium businesses. They now meet the criteria of enterprise IT and are also supported by traditional IT vendors like IBM, Microsoft, SAP, Oracle among others.
Cloud Computing as a service provisioning mechanism has graduated to become a mainstay option for organisations. Depending on their IT maturity and priority, organisations are choosing to consume services via SaaS (Software as a Service), PaaS (Platform as a Service) and/or Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) from Cloud Service Providers (CSPs).
It’s not surprising, then, that many CIOs are exploring, pilot testing or using in-production Cloud offerings in some form or shape despite some skepticism on their part.
According to a Greyhound Research study titled, Emerging Markets Cloud Index 2015, more than 75% organisations in the Asia Pacific Japan (APJ) region are already either using Cloud, planning to increase consumption in next 12-18 months, or currently running a Proof of Concept (PoC).
“An increasing number of organisations are leveraging Cloud to better manage money and time spent on servicing their existing infrastructure and application portfolio. On the back of Cloud, these organisations are expecting to deliver multiple digital transformation outcomes in the areas of automation and efficiency, experience and engagement, and sales and revenue,” said Anshoo Nandwaani, VP and Principal Analyst at Greyhound Research.
