Track Them Paws And Keep Them Healthy: WhistleLabs Tagg GPS Plus Pet Tracker

5 views Reading Time: 2 minutes

In Jan 2015, Tagg (now acquired by Whistle) announced the launch of Tagg GPS Plus Pet Tracker. Attach it to your pet’s collar or harness to track location (uses GPS and cellular network in the US) and monitor activity. You can set safe zones around your home and receive alerts if your pet strays too far. You can get alerts for notable health changes.

Web app is available for desktop and mobile browsers. Mobile app is available for Apple (iOS 7.1 and above) and Android (4.0.3 and above) smartphone. You can receive alerts as text, email, or app notifications. This device requires a Whistle service plan. Tagg GPS Plus claims improvements such as more accurate GPS monitoring, more secure collar attachment and improved battery life among others. A temperature sensor (feature not activated yet) will alert you if your pet gets too hot or cold.

Hot Or Not?

At Greyhound Research we believe the Tagg GPS Plus is a good pet tracking and activity monitoring device. Designed for pets weighing 10 lbs or more, it can be used for smaller dogs via a harness. You don’t need multiple base stations to monitor multiple pets (only one per home). The device has option of determining location using the cellular network if the device is in an area where GPS might not work in US.

Words of Caution, though water-resistant (IP67 rated), avoid submerging it for extended periods of time. Also, the Tagg tracking device may interfere with some hearing aids and implantable devices such as pacemaker. While the Tagg – The Pet Tracker User Guide lists health and safety guidelines, there is no clarity whether these apply to the Tagg GPS Plus device – important information for pet owners. Our research shows us that there is no link to download the Tagg app on the Whistle website. You have to go to the Tagg website for support,  there too it’s a hard find. The Internet Of Style Team has made the job easy for you, here are the links: App Store / Google Play Store.

Using it already? leave us a line (or two) and let us know your experience. If not, would you invest in a pet tracking device like this?
