Hitachi Data Systems Corporation (HDS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi has announced new solutions that take it well into the software defined data centre (SDCC) as well as deepening its fraternal ties with Hitachi Research and other Hitachi companies in the transportation, energy, construction, healthcare and other domains as the Internet of Things becomes the Big Data driver for businesses and governments.
However, HDS also has its work cut out in India, where many CIOs may still see it as a strong storage player alone. As Sanchit Vir Gogia, Chief Analyst, Greyhound Research put it, HDS competitor EMC is on a very strong wicket in India and with questions on whether Hitachi SVOS can manage a heterogeneous stack, HDS will have to ensure that CIOs are confident of its capabilities to deliver outside of storage. Gogia believes HDS is on the right path, since the bottleneck in performance when it comes to virtualisation is often from storage IOPS and another is the network.
