The top 100 companies, including funded startups, IT services companies and in-house centres of global corporations, have altogether employed 2.1 million people this year, registering a growth of 7%, which is a drop from the 26% growth seen in the previous two-year period.

Sanchit Vir Gogia, CEO of Greyhound Research, also said that while IT hiring has been slow, companies in the space will look at niche skills like data science, internet-of-things, machine learning and others.

He added that although mid-level professionals have been affected, many are joining the in-house technology centres of global corporations, which are increasingly growing their presence in India.
