With the new government pushing for e-governance, government agencies have once again begun floating online tenders for information and communications technology (ICT) projects, a move that may give the domestic information technology (IT) market a much-needed fillip, according to a report published in Mint. The revenue opportunity from these projects could be as large as Rs.25,000 crore over the next few years, according to industry estimates.

Similarly, BEE has put up a request for proposal (RFP) to develop and maintian the organization’s website and portal for state designated agencies. In February, software lobby body Nasscom had forecast that the domestic market would see a slower-than-expected growth of 9-12% at Rs.125-128 crore in 2014-15, mainly due to depreciation of the rupee and delayed decision-making on government projects. “The domestic IT market, which only includes domestic consumption and delivery, is growing at 15-17% at present. But if we take the pent up demand in consideration, it could grow as much as 20%,” said Sanchit Gogia, chief analyst and chief executive of Greyhound Research.
