Rajesh Uppal is a visionary and a thought leader with an impressive career of more than 30 years in the field of Information Technology. Mr. Uppal is currently serving as the Chief Information Officer of Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. and acts as the Executive Director of IT and Education & Training functions at Maruti Suzuki. 

Mr. Uppal’s association with Maruti began in 1985 when he joined the IT team. Since then he has taken up various roles and responsibilities and adopted innovative practices in the areas of technology, learning and development.

As an Executive Director of Information Technology vertical, Mr. Uppal is responsible to run the IT ecosystem at MSIL. In his years at Maruti, he has successfully established IT as a critical business function that orchestrates the business at MSIL. Surpassing the era of IT as a business enabler to streamline and sustain operational processes, Mr. Uppal forayed into areas of business analytics, digital transformation, and product & service innovation to expand the IT ecosystem and transform IT as a value creator in the value chain. Mr. Uppal firmly believes that IT exists to create business value & work of IT team does not end with the IT implementation; IT implementation needs to be tracked till the time desired business value is acquired.

As an Executive director of Education and Training vertical, Mr. Uppal is responsible for creating a skilled and motivated workforce at MSIL.  Under his aegis, Maruti Suzuki Training Academy (MSTA) was established with a vision ‘Sustaining Business Excellence by building competent people across the value chain’. As a centre of excellence, MSTA is accountable for training and development of MSIL employees to enable them to meet dynamic business needs.

Renowned as a leading IT thought leader, Mr. Uppal is a regular speaker at various forums across the globe and has chaired numerous national and international conferences. Mr. Uppal has many accolades including Global CIO, CIO Choice, Best CIO of the year etc. He has also been the jury member for some of the leading technology awards in India. He is the co-chairman of the CIO committee of CII and is also an active member of SIAM IT Group and National Board of Accreditation (NBA).

Mr. Uppal is also in the Board of Directors of various educational institutes such as NIT Srinagar and Trustee at MSIL adopted Delhi Public Schools. He is also the chairman of Institute Management Committee for various MSIL adopted Industrial Training Institutes.  Under his aegis, MSIL has garnered prestigious awards and accolades in Education and Training which include Brandon Hall Award for Learning Management System and Silver trophy for the category Best Private Organization Training Program at ASSOCHAM’s Summit-cum-Awards on Skilling India.
