Nxtra Data, the newly created subsidiary of Bharti Airtel, is planning to add new data centres across multiple cities, including Bangalore, Delhi NCR and Kolkata. The company currently manages 1.60 lakh sq ft space across seven data centres and plans to add another 1 lakh sq ft over the next couple of years.

Sanchit Vir Gogia, Chief Analyst & CEO, Greyhound Research, said, “The move to hive off data centre into a separate unit is a good one because Airtel as an organisation is primarily geared up as a consumer company and there were gaps in addressing enterprise issues. Nxtra can now put in place people and resources to fulfil the enterprise needs.”

But there could be challenges for Nxtra while going after the medium businesses. “This includes issues related to unified billing, providing technical support and bundling applications and services on top of the infrastructure,” said Gogia.
