SVG: If clients weren’t to choose Cloudflare, does it mean that IBM Cloud’s Cybersecurity isn’t as great as AWS?

FS: IBM Cloud has always offered a world-class cybersecurity capability, powered by deep analytics, robust tools and industry-leading IBM security intelligence. Now, leveraging IBM’s Partnership with Cloudflare, enterprises can extend the security of their infrastructure to the network edge. IBM Cloud Internet Services enables clients to leverage the combined security and protection of IBM’s nearly 60 Cloud Data Centers with Cloudflare’s 140+ Global POP’s to preempt threat or malware traffic from reaching their internet facing workloads. This mitigates a significant volume of attacks before it even reaches the IBM Cloud.

SVG: It is proposed to be that Cloudflare can be used at the click of a button – how real is that?

FS: IBM’s Cloud Internet Services is available via the IBM Cloud Platform Catalog with an intuitive, all-in-one UI as well as API.  This integration is available today via the Early Access Program (EAP).  See how simple it is in this video:

SVG: Also, since IBM has a reseller agreement, is it just a licensing agreement or are the companies co-investing in tech integration at code level?

FS: The offering is fully integrated into the IBM Cloud experience. IBM is integrating core Cloudflare capabilities into the new IBM Cloud Internet Services offering.  This offering enables IBM Cloud clients to leverage the security and performance value propositions of Cloudflare from within the IBM Cloud UI and API. The UI and API’s leveraging the Cloudflare capabilities were developed by IBM in close integration at code level with Cloudflare’s development and product management teams. Thus, clients will be able to leverage DDoS protection, Web Application Firewall (WAF), Global Load Balancer (GLB), Domain Name Services (DNS) and Traffic Encryption (TLS) all from within the IBM Cloud Platform in a one-stop-shop.

SVG: Lastly, since Cloudflare already has signed a similar agreement with Microsoft and Google – how is this different?

FS: While other cloud providers have made minimal accommodations to support CloudFlare users – particularly around CloudFlare’s popular Domain Name Services product – IBM Cloud Internet Services is the only case where CloudFlare’s broad capability has been integrated as a core offering by a leading cloud provider.  IBM now offers these services in a turnkey model for its users right from our UI and API, wrapped by the broad capability and footprint of the IBM Cloud.  This means our users now have instant access to these world-class security capabilities, allowing them to enhance security while boosting application performance.
