Oracle India is ramping up its cloud business with the addition of a dedicated sales force that will sell Oracle Cloud solutions. The company announced that it plans to hire more than 200 sales professionals to accelerate and ramp up its cloud business in the country.
In the same report Sanchit Gogia, chief analyst at Greyhound Research explains that requirement for new databases, Oracle’s bread-and-butter business, is going down and so they are offering heavy discounts. So, even when the sales go up, that happens at a smaller price and smaller profit margin. He also notes that Oracle lagged behind in acknowledging the potential that cloud computing had whereas SAP and Microsoft recognized it much earlier.
