A research commissioned by Dell India and conducted by research firm Greyhound Research has revealed that only 70 per cent of India’s PC users actually own one.

The research also revealed that 93 per cent of the PC users in India said that their choice of device was either a desktop or laptop. “Only 70 per cent of the 6000 respondents told us that they were owners,” said Sanchit Vir Gogia, CEO and chief analyst, Greyhound Research.  Twitter_logo_blue

“The other 30 per cent said they were not owners but they were users. Typically these users who were non-owners were from tier 3 and tier 4 cities. They would go to cyber cafes use a computer. They would be able to understand the value of computing but were probably not able to afford a PC,” he added.

“The aspiration to own a PC is very much there because they understand that this specific gadget will help them do better in life,” said Gogia.

“When we look at students from tier 3 and tier 4 cities, they are far more serious about computing. They would probably use their desktops and laptop for their class work but also to attain knowledge outside the class room,” said Gogia.  Twitter_logo_blue

The research also reveals that parents in tier 3 and 4 cities now realise that they have to invest in a PC for the education of their children. However, the process of purchase is longer than the one tier 1 and tier 2 cities because people are more conservative and don’t have money to afford one easily.
